Dear Crossovering
Hello! We matched on some stuff, yay! I'm really really excited about this exchange; when Jess floated the idea I couldn't say LET ME IN fast enough. Above everything else, I hope you have fun writing for Crossovering!!
Some general stuff: I like stories about ladies, and I like stories about dudes, but not stories about dudes at the expense of ladies. Found families are my jam. And I would pay good internet dollars for casefiles. I'm not a real big fan of kink but I'll read anything, basically. My Yuletide letter has more details about my general likes & dislikes if you're interested.
If you have specific questions, since I'm a mod probably contact either
galfridian or
weasleytook directly instead of emailing? (I probably should have thought about this ahead of time, lol)
This is really long :( but I wasn't sure how to structure it without prioritizing fandoms or crossovers, so I'll talk in general terms about what I like for each fandom instead. I put some notes about each request in my sign-up but don't feel beholden to any of those scenarios! (They're duplicated below if you don't have AO3 handy.)
Brooklyn Nine-Nine (TV): Jake and Amy, Jake/Amy, Holt, Terry, Gina. That's pretty much it. I like goofiness; Jake's insane undercover identity backstories (SERIOUSLY I LOVE THEM SO MUCH); Amy's gameness to go along with his ridiculousness even though she's very rule-oriented; Holt's unending well of surprising detail and talent; Terry's love for his family and his sensitivity; Gina. Just everything about Gina. I'd love to see them doing some real investigating. It would be really cool to see how they react in a more serious environment, or how they'd bring levity to it.
Castle: I'd really like to see something centered on Javi and Ryan and Lainie, but I'd be happy with any of the characters! It's so fun and goofy but it gets serious some times, and the conspiracy stuff with the serial killer was a lot of fun. I like the nature of the case of the week stuff, though, and not really the conspiracy around Becket's mom.
Elementary (TV): &ALFONSO;! Joan! Everybody else! I'm a Sherlock Holmes girl from way wayyyyy back, and I adore the updates they've made--this Sherlock is the most like the book version I fell in love with as a kid (aside from Jeremy Brett). Casefile stuff would be great, but anything where they're confronting weirdness is great too!
Fargo (2014): MOLLY SOLVERSON, THAT'S THE ENTRY. I like the FBI agents, too; they're very Stoppard-y. Mostly what I'm into this show for is Molly Solverson, though. Molly Solverson, solving things and feeling feelings and generally being my TV girlfriend forever, amen. Pulling in her family is great, too! Pulling in movie stuff is great, too! Everything is great! I don't really give any shits about Lester Nygaard though unless he's getting his comeuppance!
Fairy Tales & Related Fandoms
Greek and Roman Mythology: I'm combining these two because I don't want to get into specifics about which stories or figures I like. There are so many and you should go with what you like!! Mostly I included these because the possibilities are literally limitless, and they're kind of ground zero for crossovers.
Law & Order: SVU: The show I just can't quit, man, dang. My favorite eps are the ones where they get to right wrongs and/or face moral dilemmas. I'm less enamored of the sensational exploitation of sexual violence. I've loved almost every character on the show, except for the skinny guy and the blonde lady on now, who rub me all the wrong ways so I don't even know their names, but I ESPECIALLY love Munch and Finn and Olivia Benson.
The Mentalist: I pretty much requested this because I'm dying to see Jane go up against basically any other TV detectives. Who's willing to put up with his shit? Who isn't? What would he do if faced with actual supernatural weirdness? I like Cho and Teresa a lot, but everyone else except Jane is kind of interchangeable. :(
National Treasure Series: I like these movies for a lot of the same reasons I like Sleepy Hollow! The Gates family is hilarious, and ripe for further adventures. I love Abigail and Abigail/Ben. I like that they're SO INTO HISTORY, all of them, even Riley, even though Riley has no idea what they're actually talking about sometimes. The combination of batshit conspiracy and actual history is really exciting. I'd like to read anything involving the characters or the world!
Psych: I actually would be really into a story about Jules and Lassiter solving crimes away from Shawn, tbh. They're good detectives who rarely get the chance to, you know, detect. I'm also completely infected with the Jules/Lassiter bug, thanks to
damalur's complete meltdown over them (&her fic;). I love Gus and Henry, too, and the Chief, and Buzz, and used to like Shawn but his schtick has worn thin. It would be so cool to see them in someone else's 'verse, or someone else come into theirs for the purposes of crime-solving!
Sleepy Hollow (TV): ALL OF THE THINGS. I'm actually only about halfway through the first season still (perpetually) but don't worry about spoilers! I just love the mixing of American history and mythology, and the buddy cop aspect, and the supernatural weirdnesses, and could someone please put Ichabod in some new clothes THANK YOU. It would be great to see them mixing it up with other departments/jurisdictions/disciplines!
A Song of Ice and Fire - George R. R. Martin: First, a note on why this and not the TV show: I stopped watching the TV show after the scene with Jaime and Cersei in the sept. Yes, that one. It was the last straw. I'm not opposed to bringing in TV elements if you want (I like a lot of the changes they made that weren't for the sake of more boobs and more gratuitous sexual violence) but I'd prefer book stuff. Okay! Seriously, go freaking wild with this, whatever you want to do. I may not like all the characters but I find everyone (except various Greyjoys who are not Asha and Theon) completely 10000000% fascinating. Dropping other characters into this world, or pulling these characters out into other worlds, all of it sounds completely amazing and I would read actual GRRM-size stories about it.
Supernatural: I give no shits about Wincest, so I'd really like to read something that doesn't include it. I mean, what I love best about the show is actually the relationship between the Winchesters as brothers, and I don't read it as sexual. The Castiel thing, I can buy certain arguments for. In a perfect world, this show could deal with women being alive and active for real lengths of time, even when they're fuckable. I drifted somewhere in s6, I think, but don't worry about spoilers. My favorite eps are the one-offs, where they commit identity fraud and investigate stuff and Dean gets beat up and Sam thinks it's pretty hilarious.
True Grit (2010): MATTIE ROSS FOR PRESIDENT. She is the best little pragmatic Bible-quoting ghost-story-telling little girl vengeance-dealer that ever lived on a page or screen. If you haven't read the book, no big, the movie was really faithful (...not so much the 1969, though I do love John Wayne as Rooster, maybe too much). I love Mattie. I want her to have more adventures. I love Rooster and LaBoeuf. I'd kill for them all to be together again somehow. The end of the movie/book is so gutting I can't talk about it without crying (or type, because I just started crying).
Veep: I just make loud noises whenever I talk about this, so you'll have to forgive me. They're all such idiots, I love it. Iannucci's got a real gift for creating realistic buffoons, who give the appearance of competence but are always one step away from total annihilation. IT'S SO GREAT. It would be awesome to see them contending with real competence, or utter buffoonery, or supernatural threats, or anything, really.
Veronica Mars (TV): TINY LADY DETECTIVE. I like that Veronica looks like a classic noir dame but acts like a gumshoe, down to the patter, even. Setting her either during the TV run or after the movie would be great, but I'd take before the show, between the two, or during the movie too. Anything! Mostly I want to see VMars being VMars. I love Keith and Wallace and &MAC;. And Dick, though that is a problematic thing to feel and admit. (Also I ship Mac/Dick, because I am a monster.) If you felt like using secondary or even guest characters instead of Veronica, that would be fabulous too! Neptune has so much going on, and I want all of it.
The X-Files: I don't even know how to say what I like about this fandom. Everything. I even like Diana Fowler (well, not really). EVERYTHING. It wasn't my first fandom by any means but it probably is my biggest and best. Alien stuff, mytharc stuff, monster of the week stuff, fake marrieds, actual marrieds(??????????), early partners, late partners, post-movies partners, not partners, dead partners, never met, Triangle split screen deals, Cher impersonators, Flukemen, toilet monsters, Cancerman: I love literally everything. (Where applicable, drop a character from another show in place of the character that actor played in an XF episode and see what happens? I JUST BLEW MY MIND.)

REQUESTS
Request 1: Brooklyn Nine-Nine (TV), Castle, Elementary (TV), Fargo (2014), Law & Order: SVU, The Mentalist, Psych, Sleepy Hollow (TV), The X-Files
&TV cops and other assorted investigative types; I've got favorites, mostly the ladies, and I love casefiles. Pair up a couple (or more) and send them off to investigate something not of their 'verse? I'd definitely prefer a crossover to a fusion but I wouldn't say no to one either.
Request 2: Fairy Tales & Related Fandoms, Fargo (2014), Greek and Roman Mythology, A Song of Ice and Fire - George R. R. Martin, True Grit (2010)
Okay, if you matched on Fargo & True Grit: Molly Solverson and Mattie Ross, AMIRITE? I'm not sure what I mean by that but I mean it MOST EMPHATICALLY.
Sorry. I feel like these fandoms are all of a piece--weighty matters of good vs evil, intention vs deed, archetypal characters and quests and epic ... ness. Put some stuff together and see what shakes out! Fusion or crossover, whatever takes your fancy!
Request 3: Supernatural, Veep, Veronica Mars (TV), The X-Files
OH MY GOD. Can you imagine the EPIC AMOUNTS OF WTF if any of these four (all four??) crossed into each other? Funny, serious, spooky, or dramatic: I'd like to read anything but preferably real crossovers, not fusions. (Like, Amy having to deal with the Winchesters, holy shit. Or VMars and/or a Winchester trying to scam Scully (and totally actually scamming Mulder)? I DIE.)
Request 4: Fairy Tales & Related Fandoms, Greek and Roman Mythology, National Treasure Series, Sleepy Hollow (TV), The X-Files
ALL OF THE MYTHARCS. Ben Gates uncovers another cache of ancient world artifacts, but this time there's something else: something he unleashes on the world; something that Mulder or Abbie Mills has to fight; something that they thought only existed in fairy tales, but it's real. Mulder comes to investigate the Mills girls' disappearance & reappearance? Scully becomes a counselor after she leaves the FBI & Jenny Mills is her patient? Gates is one of Mulder's mysterious benefactors and he's calling in his marks? Krycek is the last descendant of the Hessian? Oh my god, anything.
I'm SO EXCITED to see what everyone does for their recipient. This is going to be so much fun!
