my stupid true detective theory
uh, content warning for references to sexual abuse and assault
so.
the five powerful/prominent dudes who take part in the masked ritual/murder with the children in 1995 (god, i fucking hate this show):
rev tuttle
gov tuttle
commander speece
sheriff childress
maggie's dad
(they'll be replaced with other figures as the years go on, or possibly from one ritual to the next, as they replaced older men prior to 1995? maybe it's just one man from each family representing? i think there's probably women involved as well but idk who)
the forrest gump dude on the riding mower is the green-eared spaghetti man who's been enacting a version of the ritual with women (and also was kidnapping/abusing kids, both before and with the meth cookers). he's probably a procurer for the five, but they don't let him take part, so he goes around with these weirdo pseudo-religious yellow king pretensions drawn from the actual ritual.
audrey is either a survivor of abuse by maggie's dad, or she came across pictures or videos like rust has in 2012, which is why she drew similar things as a child (and posed those dolls in a tableau identical to the one in that horrible marie fontenot video).
anyway, this will all be proven stupid and wrong tomorrow night!
OH ALSO i think that rust isn't talking suicide but finally being able to move on with his life, BUT marty is dying of something. the pills he pops in his 2012 interview in the first ep, the way he goes to say goodbye to maggie, the way his business is deserted. he's dying of something, and he knows it, and this is the last thing he can do to redeem himself.
what's your theory? (obviously if there are comments you should consider that they've got spoilers for all eps up to the finale!)
